Armed Forces – save up to 80%

Standard Learning Credit Scheme (SLC)

Any Armed Forces Personnel enrolling on an NEC course through the SLC will get a discount of 10% off an NEC distance learning course, Quote FRCE to obtain discount.

The SLC Scheme allows personnel to obtain financial assistance for distance learning courses up to Level 2. NEC is a provider for the Standard Learning Credit Scheme (SLC) for GCSEs, accounting and book-keeping, exercise & fitness knowledge, childcare, counselling and more. You are able to claim 80% of your course fees up to a maximum of £175 each financial year.

You must enrol on the SLC scheme before applying for your chosen course of study and before paying any money. To do this, please visit your Resettlement and Education Co-ordinator to complete the necessary forms and to check that your course is approved for funding purposes.

The Marine Society College of the Sea is an examination centre and offer a service whereby for Royal Navy and Royal Marines personnel can be entered for exams and arrangements may be made for the to sit at sea. If you are a seafarer, please go to The Marine Society College of the Sea website

Credit where learning credit's due...

The Enhanced Learning Credit Scheme (ELC) Scheme provides help to Forces personnel for learning at Level 3 or above. The ELC Scheme may contribute up to eighty per cent of your course fee. NEC is an approved provider (number 1160) of the ELC Scheme for ‘A’ Levels, accountancy and management courses.

ELCs are authorised through the Enhanced Learning Credits Administration Service (ELCAS) nad are awarded on two "tiers": the lower tier is an annual credit of up to £1,000, for which you need to have completed four or more years' elgible service, while the upper tier is up to £2,000 (eight or more eligible years service). You can take the three years consecutively or non consecutively, with different courses in each financial year.

A big plus with ELCs is that you can still claim them up to 10 years after you leave the Forces.
