Anna Somauh, Introduction to Home-based Childcare
When Anna Somuah decided she wanted to gain a qualification to become a registered childminder, she chose to study with NEC. She felt distance learning was the best option to fit in with her busy schedule as the mother of a two year-old with a full-time job, “I needed something that fitted into my schedule and was flexible enough for me to work at my own pace.”
Anna found the course was well set out and easy to follow, "the activities given at the end of each topic were also an excellent way to help you to understand an area after reading about it, I also found the assignments to be very helpful as it gave you a break to reflect on what you had learned in a topic area and helped you practice with the assignment.”
She also found her tutor supportive and helpful “There were topics which were challenging, however if you needed help, your tutor was an email or phone call away. I liked the flexibility of these methods of contact as you could contact them whenever you needed assistance. I also truly appreciated the way feedback was given at the end of each assignment.”
Having successfully completed the first unit, Anna now intends to continue her studies and gain the full Level 3 Diploma in Home-based Childcare. When asked what she would advise others considering a distance-learning course, Anna said, "I would say that it is an excellent way for people who have busy lives and commitments to fit studying into their hectic routines in a flexible and practical way.”
When she’s not busy studying or working, Anna enjoys watching Sci-Fi films, reading and spending time with her family.
Anna feels very positive about her experience as a distance-learning student, “Thank you very much NEC for giving me the confidence to return to studying after being away from it for a while.”
