The suggested completion time for a full A level qualification in most subjects is generally between 250–300 hours. A level Mathematics has a longer estimate of approximately 300–360 hours.

Coursework is generally not required for many A level subjects, such as Business, Chemistry, Physics, Economics, Psychology, Religious Studies, and Philosophy. However, A level History, English Language, English Literature, and Geography include a Non-Exam Assessment (NEA) element, which is a required written coursework piece contributing to your final grade.

While A levels are traditionally sat from age 16, there is no upper age limit, meaning you have the freedom to study and achieve your qualifications at any stage of life.

While most A levels are open to everyone, some subjects require specific prior knowledge or mathematical skills, and all require a good level of English, so it is best to check the course page and individual specifications for details.

WHAT OUR STUDENTS SAY

I have finished my A level studies with NEC, and I am so glad I chose this college. The tutors were always friendly and their feedback was immensely useful. Whenever I had an enquiry, they were quick to respond and very helpful.

I highly recommend The National Extension College. As the parent of a current ‘A’ Level student here, I am really impressed with the level of communication and support in all areas, including teaching, pastoral, and examination access and bookings. I am so grateful for their help in securing a safe and individualised education pathway for my son. Thank you to everyone at this incredible college.

I wouldn’t change a thing about joining NEC. It allowed me to focus on myself, and I’m proud of what I’ve achieved and learned. I’ll always be grateful for the support. Thank you for everything over the past few years.

As a university lecturer and ex-teacher currently pursuing an A level for fun (it’s quite the tale!), I must say I’ve found the course materials exceptional. The content is thoughtfully structured, highly engaging, and effectively caters to a distance learner’s requirements, particularly when studying online without the company of classmates or direct interaction with a tutor.
