Doing A level Biology in a year with NEC leads to medicine at Swansea University Wednesday, 14 July 2021

After deciding to return to university to study medicine, Darius considered independently organising and sitting an A level but wasn’t sure where to start. His research brought him to NEC’s Structured Fast Track A level Biology.

“I chose NEC because of all the positive reviews I had seen online. The onboarding website and team were also the most clear and easy to understand of those I looked at. NEC was extremely helpful as it removed the worry of the logistical side, allowing me to focus on the subject itself.”

Independent study wasn’t new to Darius. He knew that online learning would suit him but having the support of his tutor and the small cohort of fellow students made the process far more enjoyable. He loved the ease of studying at home and would definitely consider studying with NEC again if new areas of interest arose.

“I found the format of the course to be well suited to my learning style. For example, whilst the overall structure of the course is provided with progress markers as you move along, I appreciated the ability to be able to plan my own study times on a day-to-day or week-to-week basis.”

The tutor provided valuable feedback as the course progressed, allowing Darius to make improvements on his assignments and giving him the confidence to pursue his career in medicine.

This career change was something that Darius had dreamed of doing for a long time, but had considered an unrealistic move. Although Darius had left school with GCSEs in science, he had not continued these on to A level. Having now completed his A level Biology in a year with NEC’s Structured Fast Track option, he has been accepted into Swansea University’s Medicine (Graduate Entry) undergraduate programme, an innovative accelerated four-year medical degree. We wish him all the best for his move to Swansea in September and the rest of his studies.

“I would say to go for it. I found distance learning with NEC to be an ideal way to study and gain the knowledge needed to make the transition into a new career path.”

Enrolment for the 2021/2022 Structured Fast Track session is now open! If, like Darius, you are looking to make a career move or enhance your university application, enrol now to begin your studies in September.
