Esther Chesterman has worked in education for over 25 years. Initially, she was co-owner of an Independent Training Provider, The Profile Partnership. Esther then joined Cambridge Assessment International Education, managing a suite of teacher professional development qualifications. In 2017, she became General Manager of NCC Education, a UK awarding body offering qualifications globally. Since April 2021, Esther has been CEO of the National Extension College (NEC), a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to distance learning. NEC’s mission is to make education accessible to those unable to study in mainstream schools or colleges, offering a wide range of flexible qualifications and support.

Esther’s non-executive and advisory responsibilities include Chairing the Royal Academy of Dance Examination Committee, and being a board member of the Institute of Risk Management, chair of the Awarding Committee.

Education and personal pursuits

Esther’s Master of Law focused on Governance, Directors’ Duties, and Financial Management. Outside of her professional life, she is a keen hiker and has completed a number of European long-distance trails.
