James Tweed is an accomplished entrepreneur and education technology leader with extensive experience in digital learning, prison education, and maritime training. As the Founder and CEO of Coracle Online Ltd, he has pioneered secure digital education solutions for prisons, enabling access to learning in over 90% of public prisons across England and Wales, as well as in Gibraltar, Northern Ireland, and the US. Coracle has received multiple awards, including the King’s Award for Enterprise (Promoting Opportunity – 2023) and Google Social Impact (2024). James has secured grants from Innovate UK, including a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) to develop AI-powered adaptive learning experiences tailored for prisoners and disengaged learners.
James is the Founder and Trustee of the charity Rebooted, which recycles Windows10 laptops for prison leavers and the families of prisoners. James is a member of the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT)’s Digital Inclusion Action Committee (DIAC).
James holds an MPhil in Psychology and Education from the University of Cambridge, where his research focused on the role of education in prisoner rehabilitation. He also has a BSc in Maritime Business and Marine Law from Plymouth University.
He is passionate about running, real tennis, skiing, sailing, and outdoor pursuits.
